Chicken Challenge!

Okay Pleasant Hill kids. You’ve heard my rant about how much I disdain the word “nonfiction.” You know my feelings about calling a word something that it is not. Don’t make me use the boy/girl example again because it won’t be pretty. So, here’s your big chance to come up with a better term than nonf…

Post your ideas right here and the judge (me!) will select a winner next Friday, May 20th. If two people enter the same word, the first one posted will be considered.

Go ahead and stick out your neck. Who knows, you might just win the chicken!

Okay folks, this has not been an easy task. There were many good choices, and I could easily have selected several as the best. ut I had to choose one, and that one is Factical. I like it because it is fairly short, has the word fact in it, and reminds me of the word practical, which is what this kind of writing often is. So, the chicken goes to Hailey L. of Room 19. Congratulations, Hailey, for sticking out your neck and coming up with a winner.

While I liked all the submissions, there are a few others that stand out for me:
    Factsinating
    Realalism
    Factastical
    Faction

Thanks to all who entered. I hope you will eliminate the word nonf… and replace it with the much better word, Factical.

    Have fun, and keep writing!

    Robert

    Hi Mr. Young,
We were just talking about the chicken challenge and the writing festival. Many of us have an idea so watch here for those ideas. You inspired us to write, it was fun to have you visit, and it was cool to have a writer come into our school (even though we are all writers, ourselves) :).
We wonder who will win the chicken challenge. Maybe we will get to publish a book just like you.
Sincerely, your friends in Room 18
